Argentine football legend Diego Maradona has confirmed that he will vie for the position of President of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA), reported L’Équipe magazine of France.
“I will return to FIFA for my friends in the United Arab Emirates, who gave me work and many other things,” stated Maradona.
“But most importantly, I will return to FIFA for my family, which has gone through many ordeals because of me.
“I will not return for revenge, but to make changes in football. We must put an end to corruption and pilfering.”
The early election for FIFA President is slated for February 26, 2016. Although President of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA), Michel Platini, is considered the top candidate, the French football legend has not yet formally been nominated.
