Armenia representatives Artur Hovhannisyan and Arsen Poghosyan had a winning start at the 2014 AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships, which are underway in the Bulgarian capital city Sofia. Hovhannisyan (49 kg) defeated his South Korean opponent by a score of 3-0, and Poghosyan (52 kg) beat his Nigerian challenger with the same score. Zhora Hamazaryan (60 kg) will kick off his campaign in the round of 16. Gevorg Petrosyan (75 kg) will start his championship battle on Friday. Narek Manasyan (81 kg) will enter the ring for the first time on Saturday, and against Georgia’s representative. Seryozha Hakobyan’s (91 kg) first bout will be on Thursday, and against a Turkish boxer. Anush Grigoryan, who is Armenia’s sole representative in the women’s competition, will enter the ring on Thursday, and she will face an Australian athlete.
