Vic Darchinyan’s coach speaks about Vic’s defeat

Vic Darchinyan does not need to learn anything new but his high skills must be sharpened. He also must not be encouraged but sometimes he needs to be cooled off before a round, the coach of Vic Darchinyan, Vazgen Badalyan told NEWS.am Sport after Vic’s defeat against the Japanese boxer Shinsuke Yamanaka during the match for the WBA world title.

Mr. Badalyan was Vic’s defeat expected?

I never think about failure. When Vic was training with me he was thinking with the same logic. Unfortunately I did not watch the match I got the information from the Internet. I had warned Vic that Yamanaka was a strong opponent. He was not stronger than Vic for sure but Vic should have approached this match differently.

What do you mean by different approach?

Boxing also has the element of tactical combat. Vic often harries to knock down the opponents which give them points. Vic does not need to be encouraged, on the contrary, sometimes he must be cooled off before a match. Besides knowing the technique of the opponent, one must also know his inside.

Could the factor of Japan have affected Vic?

I don’t think so. Vic never had problems about where or with whom to fight. It’s just that one must enter the ring for victory and not knock out. The approach of the new coach John Lewis might also have played its role. That coach was absent from boxing for some years then he started training Vic. Maybe he tried to realize some new techniques on the ring. If that is the case, Vic Darchinyan does not need to learn anything new but his high skills must be honed.
