By Vera Martirosyan

Arthur Sarkisov plays for the Russian Premiere League’s FC Lokomotiv Moscow, but he is currently on loan at FC Shinnik Yaroslavl. And Sarkisov made his debut in Armenia’s national football squad on August 10, 2011.

NEWS.am Sport conducted an interview with Arthur Sarkisov, and below is an excerpt.

Have you dreamt of playing for Armenia’s national team ever since your childhood?

I cannot say ever since childhood, but I very much wanted to play for Armenia’s team over the past five years. And when they invited me, I agreed without thinking for a minute.

Which is your most memorable match with the squad?

The game with the Irish. It was a very serious match. We had a good chance to come out of the group. I remember that match very well.

Is there competition in the offensive line of Armenia’s national team?

Our selected are a very good collective. We all are in good relations with one another. There is no problem when one is playing and the other is not.

Do you speak Armenian?

I recently started understanding a bit; but we can say that I do not.

Armenia’s squad will play two friendly games in two months. Will you take part?

I await and hope very much that I will be allowed such opportunity.

Many avid fans believe we [Armenia] can occupy first place at the group phase of the World Cup qualifiers. What do you think?

This is football, everything is possible. I believe we can pass the group phase.

Is your brother a footballer, too?

He, just like me, is a track & field athlete. My brother is the 60-meter sprint champion of Russia.

Aside from taking part in the national squad’s games, have you visited Armenia?

I came in February, prior to the games, with my wife. We traveled, saw many things, and were very satisfied. That was the first time that I came not as a footballer.
