China suspends La Liga broadcasts over Mbappe’s remarks about Mao Zedong

China Central Television (CCTV) has suspended broadcasts of Spanish La Liga matches following remarks made by Kylian Mbappe, the Real Madrid striker, AS reports.

The 27-year-old France international recently spoke in an interview about memes depicting him as a dictator, describing a meme that superimposed his face onto an image of a “Chinese dictator” as the funniest. The remark was reportedly a reference to former Chinese leader Mao Zedong.

Following the incident, several Chinese companies ended their partnerships with the footballer. All advertisements and videos featuring Mbappe were pulled from the air.
