Chess Olympiad: Opponents of the Armenian teams in the penultimate round

The penultimate round of the World Chess Olympiad, currently drawing to a close in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, will take place on September 26.

The Armenian team, having secured 15 points, will face the tournament leader, Uzbekistan—which has 16 points—in the 10th round.

In previous rounds, the Armenian team defeated Barbados (4–0), Scotland (3.5–0.5), Sweden (2.5–1.5), Argentina (2.5–1.5), and Iran (2.5–1.5), drew with China (2–2), the USA (2–2), and the Netherlands (2–2), defeated Azerbaijan (2.5–1.5).

The Uzbekistan team defeated Jamaica (4–0), Peru (3.5–0.5), Austria (3–1), Turkey (2.5–1.5), Hungary (4–0), India (2.5–1.5), and China (3–1), lost to Germany (1.5–2.5), defeated the USA team (2.5–1.5).

The Armenian women's national team will face Greece in the 10th round. Both teams have 14 points and share 5th through 10th place.

In previous rounds, the Armenian female chess players defeated Hong Kong (3.5–0.5), Singapore (3–1), and Croatia (4–0); lost to Kazakhstan (1–3), defeated Peru (3–1), Latvia (3–1), Azerbaijan (2.5–1.5), and the USA (2.5–1.5); and lost to China (1–3).

In previous rounds, the Greek team defeated Pakistan (4–0) and Chile (3.5–0.5); lost to India (0.5–3.5); drew with Singapore (2–2), defeated South Korea (3.5–0.5), Finland (2.5–1.5), Estonia (2.5–1.5), and Ukraine (2.5–1.5), drew with Georgia (2–2).
