Chess Olympiad: Armenia's team defeated the Azerbaijanis

In the 9th round of the World Chess Olympiad held in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, the Armenian national team defeated the Azerbaijani team with a score of 2.5–1.5.

Hayk Martirosyan drew against Shakhriyar Mamedyarov, Robert Hovhannisyan against Aydin Suleymanli, and Shant Sargsyan against Mahammad Muradli.

Gabriel Sargsyan secured the winning point for Armenia by defeating Rauf Mamedov while playing with the white pieces.

The Armenian team is among the leaders with 15 points.

In previous rounds, the Armenian national team defeated Barbados (4–0), Scotland (3.5–0.5), Sweden (2.5–1.5), and Argentina (2.5–1.5); drew with China (2–2); defeated Iran (2.5–1.5); and drew with the USA (2–2) and the Netherlands (2–2).

In previous rounds, the Azerbaijani team defeated Morocco (4–0), the Philippines (3–1), and Switzerland (3–1); drew with the Czech Republic (2–2) and Romania (2–2); defeated Argentina (2.5–1.5) and Greece (3.5–0.5); and drew with India (2–2).

Two rounds remain until the end of the Olympiad.
