The Spanish club Deportivo's forward and former Gabon national team player Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has accused the country's government of humiliating him.
Following the Gabon national team's failure in the 2026 Africa Cup of Nations campaign, the squad was dissolved through government intervention, and the team's all-time top scorer, Aubameyang (41 goals), was dropped from the team. He was held responsible for the failure.
"They humiliated and tarnished my reputation, even though I played with an injury during the Africa Cup of Nations. This is the last straw, and I prefer to stop here," Trtafrika quotes Aubameyang as saying.
Gabon's opponents in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers will be Morocco, Niger, and Lesotho.
