German champions Bayern Munich kicked off the new Bundesliga season with a victory.
In the opening round, the team led by Belgian manager Vincent Kompany hosted Stuttgart and secured a 5–1 win (video).
Scorers for Bayern included French defender Dayot Upamecano, French midfielder Michael Olise, German midfielder Aleksandar Pavlovic, and Colombian forward Luis Diaz. Stuttgart's German defender Josha Vagnoman scored an own goal but also netted the visitors' only goal.
In the second round, Bayern will visit Schalke on September 5, while Stuttgart will host Koln on September 4.
