"I expected to become a European Championship medalist, but winning the gold medal was unexpected; it came as a surprise to me. This medal brought me great joy and showed me that gold is within reach. I am grateful to everyone who came to welcome me and our team."
The newly crowned European champion, World Cup winner, and 2025 European bronze medalist Artur Avetisyan said this in an interview with a NEWS.am Sport correspondent at Zvartnots Airport, having returned to Yerevan with the Armenian team the previous night.
"I am very happy to be returning from the European Championship with a gold medal. My impressions are immense. It was a long-awaited medal; something was always missing, and I couldn't quite manage to become a gold medalist. This time, by God's will, it happened. I am grateful to everyone who came to welcome me and our team, as well as to all those who stand by me and have always supported me.
The World Championships are coming up in two months. We don't have time to rest. I will try to repeat this success - or at least win a medal to the best of my ability - at the World Championships.
We haven't yet discussed increasing the difficulty of my routine. I will consult with my coaches to determine how we will approach the World Championships," said Artur Avetisyan.
At the European Artistic Gymnastics Championships held in Zagreb, Croatia, from August 19 to 24, Artur Avetisyan delivered a brilliant performance to become a champion for the first time in his career. He scored 14.400 points in the rings final.
