Atletico Madrid kicked off the new La Liga season with a victory. Managed by Argentine Diego Simeone, the team hosted Malaga in the opening round of the Spanish championship and secured a 2–0 win (video).
South Korean forward Lee Kang-in opened the scoring in the 70th minute.
Spanish forward Alex Baena doubled the hosts' lead in the 85th minute.
In the second round, Atletico will host Villarreal on August 23.
