Last season’s English Premier League runners-up Arsenal were hosted by Atletico Madrid, and were held to a 1-1 draw in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League semifinal clash.
Arsenal and Sweden striker Viktor Gyokeres converted a penalty in the 44th minute.
And Atletico’s Argentine striker Julian Alvarez equalized in the 56th minute—also from the penalty spot.
The second leg will be played in London on May 5.
