Team Armenia best at European Weightlifting Championships

The Armenian men's national team finished first at the 2026 European Weightlifting Championships that concluded Sunday in Batumi, Georgia.

For the second year in a row, the Armenian men's team have won the team event.

The Armenian women's team finished third in the team event.

Armenia's first medal in Batumi was won by Garnik Cholakyan. Cholakyan became the silver medalist of Europe in the 60kg category. In the combined total, he recorded 274 kg (124+150).

In the 71kg category, Gor Sahakyan won a silver medal, with a combined total of 330 kg (150+180).

In the 79kg category, Martin Poghosyan won the bronze medal, with a combined total of 338 kg (152+186).

In the women’s competition, Armenia’s Aleksandra Grigoryan (58 kg) won a silver medal in the combined total, with a result of 210 kg (91+119), while Anna Amroyan (77 kg) won a gold medal in the clean and jerk, with a combined total of 136 kg, and set a youth record.

On April 24, Armenia's first gold medal was won by Emma Poghosyan (86 kg). In the combined total, she recorded 248 kg (107+141). In the men’s event, Ara Aghanyan (94 kg) became a silver medalist of Europe, with a combined total of 381 kg (175+206).

On April 25, Garik Karapetyan became European champion for the third time, with a combined total of 415 kg (189+226), in the men's 110kg category
And in the men’s +110kg competition Sunday, Armenia’s Olympic silver medalist and world champion Varazdat Lalayan won the title for the third time in his career, with a combined total of 451 kg (210+241).
Team Armenia participated in the 2026 European Weightlifting Championships with 16 weightlifters: 8 men and 8 women.
