We are successfully returning to Armenia. Hakob Serobyan, the head coach of the Armenian men’s national gymnastics team, said this in an interview with NEWS.an Sport.
The Armenian gymnastics team, which were stranded in the capital of Qatar, Doha, will arrive in the Armenian capital, Yerevan, today. They are currently in the Georgian capital, Tbilisi, and will soon cross the border of Armenia by land.
“Everything is fine with us, we successfully left Doha and are already on our way to Armenia. As I already said, there were no flights in Doha, or there were and they were immediately canceled. As a result of discussions with Armenia’s embassy in Qatar, we decided to return to our homeland via Saudi Arabia. The embassy organized [it], they provided visas for Saudi Arabia to all of us, we drove for 9 hours to Riyadh, from there we were able to get very good [airline] tickets to Istanbul, and from where we flew to Tbilisi. Now we are driving to Armenia and will cross the border in about 30 minutes. I am very happy that [our gymnast] Artur Avetisyan will make it to his wedding, which will take place on March 20,” said Hakob Serobyan.
Due to the situation created by the military operations in the region, the Armenian men’s national gymnastics team were unable to return directly from Doha, which is why they missed the third round of the gymnastics World Cup held in Antalya, Turkey.
The Armenian national team had left for Doha on February 23, and the tension in the region began on February 28.
