Armenia football leagues’ matches to begin with minute of silence

Tribute will be paid to legendary Soviet Armenian footballer and manager Nikita Simonyan in all upcoming matches of Armenia’s football leagues, the Football Federation of Armenia announced.

As reported earlier, Simonyan passed away at the age of 99.

During his professional football career, Nikita Simonyan played for Spartak Moscow and is the club’s all-time leading scorer, with 162 goals. He became the USSR football league champion four times with Spartak and won the Cup twice. And in 1956, he became an Olympic champion, with the USSR team.

Under Simonyan’s management, Armenia’s Ararat club became USSR league champions and cup winners in 1973. And as Spartak Moscow head coach, he won the league twice and the Cup four times.
