World No.9 Karen Khachanov (Russia) made a winning start in the men’s singles competition at the US Open in New York.
In the first round of this tournament, the Muscovite Armenian tennis player defeated world No.104 Nishesh Basavareddy (USA) in four sets—6:7 (5:7), 6:3, 7:5, 6:2.
The match lasted 3 hours and 12 minutes. Khachanov's opponent in the second round will be world No.76 Kamil Majchrzak (Poland). The prize fund of the US Open is $90 million.
