World No.12 Karen Khachanov (Russia) made a winning start in the men’s singles competition at the Cincinnati Masters tournament in the US.
The Muscovite Armenian tennis player started his campaign in the Round of 64 and defeated world No.104 Valentin Royer (France) 6:4, 7:6 (8:6).
The match lasted 1 hour and 50 minutes. In the Round of 32, Khachanov's opponent will be world No.101 Jenson Brooksby (USA). The prize fund of the Cincinnati Masters is $9.1 million.
