Current German Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich hosted reigning champions and cup holders Bayer Leverkusen and won 3-0 in the first legs of the Round of 16 in the Champions League Wednesday.
England striker Harry Kane scored twice. German midfielder Jamal Musiala also netted a goal. From the 62nd minute, however, Leverkusen played with 10 players. Their French defender Nordi Mukiele was sent off for a second yellow card.
Last season’s Spanish La Liga runners-up Barcelona were hosted by Portuguese side Benfica and won 1-0. Barca’s Spanish defender Pau Cubarsi, however, was sent off in the 22nd minute. The club’s winning goal was scored by their Brazilian striker Rafinha.
And French Ligue 1 titleholders PSG lost 0-1 to current English Premier League leaders Liverpool in Paris. English midfielder Harvey Elliott netted the winning goal in the dying minutes of this game.
Earlier, Italian Serie A champions Inter Milan beat Dutch side Feyenoord 2-0 in their away match.
The second legs of the aforesaid pairings will be played on March 11.
