Elina Avanesyan (Armenia), who is ranked world No. 44 in women’s tennis, reached the semifinals of the Hobart International tournament in Australia without playing a quarterfinal match.
The press service of this tennis tournament reports that Avanesyan's opponent in the quarterfinals, world No. 36 Amanda Anisimova (USA), withdrew from the competition due to illness. Their match was to be played Thursday.
Elina Avanesyan's opponent in the semifinals will be world No. 67 McCartney Kessler (USA), who defeated world No. 33 Dayana Yastremska (Ukraine)
in two sets—7:5, 6:4—in the quarterfinals.
The prize fund of the Hobart International is $275 thousand.
