Ronaldo: Football has to be fair sometimes, Portugal deserved to win

Cristiano Ronaldo, the 39-year-old striker for Portugal and Saudi Arabia's Al Nasr, considers the victory over Slovakia in the 1/8 finals of Euro 2024 as fair.

"Sometimes it's difficult to score a goal from a penalty. I've done the hundred meters more than 200 times in my career, but sometimes there is confusion - you don't know whether to hit the corner or try the center.

I've failed to take a penalty twice this year, but this time we won. I think football sometimes has to be fair and today Portugal deserved to win," Ronaldo was quoted by ESPN.

Ronaldo failed to effectively convert the penalty in extra time. Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak saved the ball.

The main and extra time ended 0-0. Portugal won 3-0 on penalties. Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa made three saves.

Portugal's goals were scored by Ronaldo, Bruno Fernandes and Bernardo Silva.

In the quarterfinals, Portugal will face world vice-champion France, who beat Belgium 1-0.
