Russian 16th-ranked Karen Khachanov commented on his victory (7:5, 7:6 (7:3)) over British 30th-ranked Cameron Norrie in the first round of the Monte Carlo Masters tournament.
"I'm very happy and proud to be able to surpass my opponent in difficult moments and pressure episodes. It was a very tough match, especially the first round. Cameron had a certain setback in the classification table, but he is always a strong opponent," Eurosport quoted Karen Khachanov as saying.
In the second round the Armenian tennis player's opponent will be the 22nd world ranked player Francisco Cerundolo of Argentina, who defeated the 52nd world ranked player Daniel Altmaier of Germany 6:2, 7:6 (7:3).
The Monte Carlo Masters has a prize fund of 5.9 million euros.
