Real Madrid played host to Villarreal, in the 17th round of the Spanish La Liga, and defeated their guests 4-1.
As a result, Real rose to first place, with 42 points, in the current La Liga standings, and are 1 point ahead of second place Girona, which, however, have played one game less. Villarreal are fourteenth, with 16 points.
