Lionel Messi, the captain of reigning World Cup champions Argentina and star forward of current French Ligue 1 champions PSG, has turned down the latter's first offer to extend his current contract—albeit the parties had a verbal agreement in this regard before the start of the 2022 World Cup, reports La Vanguardia.
Messi, 35, received the official written offer last week, but he was dissatisfied with the amount of his salary. Due to problems related to financial fair play, PSG is forced to reduce the total salary by 30 percent next season.
Messi's current contract runs until the end of this season, but the PSG management wants to continue their collaboration for another year.
