FIFA: Football clubs spend $1.57bn in January

Football clubs have spent $1.57 billion during the winter transfer window, reports the website of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA).

This indicator is a record for January. The previous record was set in January 2018: $1.3 billion.

Last month, 4,387 transfers of football players were registered. Compared to January last year, the number of transfers increased by 14.4 percent, and the total amount of respective deals increased by 49.4 percent.

English teams are in first place, spending $898.6 million. French clubs are second ($131.9 million), and German teams are third ($85.8 million).
