Daniil Medvedev of Russia failed to reach the 1/8 finals of the Australian Open. In the third round, the eighth-ranked player of the world faced Sebastian Korda of the United States (31st ranked) and lost 6-7 (7-9), 3-6, 6-7 (4-7). The fight lasted three hours.
Medvedev would drop to No. 12 in the Association of Professional Tennis Players' rankings.
In last year's Australian Championships Medvedev reached the final and lost to Spaniard Rafael Nadal.
