Canelo Alvarez apologizes to Messi

Undisputed world professional boxing champion Canelo Alvarez (Mexico) has apologized to Lionel Messi, the 35-year-old star forward of the Argentine national football team and PSG, for the threats.

“These last few days I got carried away by the passion and love I feel for my country and made comments that were out of place, for which I want to apologize to Messi and the people of Argentina,” Alvarez wrote Wednesday on Twitter.

“Every day we learn something new, and this time it was my turn.”
Earlier, he had threatened—with a post on Twitter—Messi for trampling the shirt of the Mexican national team.

“Did you see Messi cleaning the floor with our [i.e., Mexico’s] shirt and flag????” Alvarez had tweeted.

“He better pray to God that I don’t find him!!” he had added in another tweet.

In the second round of the group stage at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, Argentina had beaten Mexico 2-0 thanks to Messi's goal and assist. After the match, the Argentines had celebrated their victory with joy in their dressing room. And the respective video shows Messi’s foot appearing to make contact with a Mexico shirt that was on the floor.
