Beijing 2022: On Friday, Armenia will have one participant

Armenia will have one participant at the 24th Winter Olympics being held in Beijing on Friday. Skier Mikayel Mikayelyan will start on the 7th medal day.

The next men's cross-country skiing competition will begin at 11:00 a.m. Yerevan time. Mikael Mikaelyan will take part in 15 km classical style competition. Ninety-nine skiers from 50 countries will be starting the competition.

Mikayel Mikayelyan was born in 1999 in Ashotsk in a family of skiers. His personal trainers are his father and mother, Artur and Alla Mikaelian. He has been skiing since childhood. The multiple champion of Armenia, winner and medalist of international tournaments, at the world championships of up to 23 years in 2021 against 71 competitors from 30 countries with a score of 36:17,10 took 8th place. This is the best result in Armenia in cross-country skiing.

Beijing 2022 is Mikayel Mikayelian's second Olympic Games. He also participated in PyeongChang 2018, where he placed 72nd among 80 athletes in the ski sprint (classical style) and 83rd in the 15 km classical style.

Mikael Mikaelian also participated in the second Winter Youth Olympic Games in 2016 in Lillehammer.

The right to participate in Beijing 2022 was acquired by rating points (55.16).

This is Mikayel Mikayelian's second and last start in Beijing 2022. On February 6, the 23-year-old skier competed in the 15 km classic + 15 km freestyle skiathlon. Out of 70 participants from 34 countries, 49 skiers crossed the finish line. Twenty-one competitors failed to cross the competition zone. Mikael Mikaelyan crossed the finish line 47th. The result was 1:25:53.7. Alexander Bolshunov from the Russian Olympic team won the title of Olympic champion with the result of 1:16:09,8.
