Armenia to compete at World Youth Under-16 Chess Olympiad 2012 in Istanbul

The World Youth Under-16 Chess Olympiad 2012 will kick off Wednesday, in Istanbul, Turkey, and simultaneously with the 40th World Chess Olympiad, which is being held there between Tuesday and September 9.

At this traditional tournament, Armenia’s national youth team will comprise Tigran Harutyunian, Manuel Petrosyan, Arman Mikealyan, Norayr Torosyan, and Vladimir Kanjaryan. The team’s head coach is Arsen Yeghiazarian. 

Armenia’s national team is ranked fourth among the 39 participating teams. The top-three ranking teams are Russia, Iran, and India. 

Official opening of the World Youth Under-16 Chess Olympiad 2012 will get underway at 4:30pm, Armenia time, and the first-round matches will start at 5:30pm.

The young chess players will compete in ten rounds and under Swiss rules.

The tournament will come to a close on September 5.
