London Olympics 2012: Russian-Armenian judoist’s opponent is announced

Russian Olympic judo team member Arsen Galstyan (60kg) will start his London Olympics campaign in the last-16.

The Russian-Armenian athlete’s first opponent will be Zakari Gourouza of Niger.

To note, Armenia’s Hovhannes Davtyan likewise qualified to the last 16.

As NEWS.am Sport informed earlier, Davtyan started the Olympics with a victory over his German opponent in the men’s Judo 60kg last-64 on Saturday.

Davtyan defeated Germany’s Tobias Englmaier and will face Azerbaijan’s Ilgar Mushkiyev in the last-16.

Hovhannes Davtyan was born on November 25, 1985. He got involved in Judo at the age of 12. Hovhannes is European runner-up (2007, 2011), winner of the World Super Cup, and bronze medalist at the 2009 World championships. 

“I don’t think it’s a secret that I’m going to London to win. It is the dream of every athlete to win in the Olympics, and I am leaving to make my dream come true,” he had said ahead of the 2012 London Games.

To note, the 2012 London Olympics officially kicked off on Friday and they will come to a close on August 12.
