YEREVAN. - The only representative of Armenia at the 2012 Figure Skating World Championships Slavik Hyrapetyan was 18th out of 27 in the qualifying round.

A 16-year-old skater did not manage to join top 12 to advance to the finals.

“Slavik Hayrapetyan is Armenia’s best figure skater. He is the first Armenian skater to leave behind ten opponents, among them representatives of Azerbaijan, Turkey, Georgia, Belarus, Ukraine, US, Hungary,” said Samvel Khachatryan, head of Armenian figure skating federation.

Khachatryan is angered by the fact that Armenian media labeled Slavik’s performance as unsuccessful, he said in an interview with NEWS.am Sport.

“It was not an unsuccessful performance. This year’s participants are stronger and more experienced than the Armenian skater. He was the youngest participant of the tournament, his score (92.88) is high enough,” he said.
