Mourinho: In 5 years, even Messi will be 34 years old and we’ll all cry

Manchester United (England) manager José Mourinho used Argentina national football squad and FC Barcelona (Spain) forward Lionel Messi as an example to explain why Man United’s 35-year-old midfielder Michael Carrick needs to be rested more often than before in order to minimize his minutes.

“In five years, even Messi will be 34 years old and we’ll all cry,” Mundo Deportivo online sports newspaper of Spain quoted the Portuguese specialist as saying.

“It’s one thing to be 25 years old and another to be 35, but what I can say is that he [Carrick] is phenomenal.

“[But] I can’t expect the same thing from Carrick as I do Marcus Rashford or Ander Herrera, in terms of playing four or five consecutive matches.”
