Before the match against Germany in the framework of the European Championship Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon once again remembered the memorable match of 2006 when during the semi-finals of the World Cup in Germany Italy beat Germany with a score of 2:0.
During an interview given to the German Bild paper, Buffon mentioned the strength of the German National Team however he expressed hope that the statistics of personal meetings will not change for the worse for Italy.
“We know that you want revenge and that you are damn strong. A great team. We can’t allow ourselves even the smallest mistake and as always we need a little luck as well. Traditions and statistics are created to be changed. Of course, I hope that nothing will be changed and we shall celebrate again. The victory back then was incredible,” Buffon said.
To note, Italy has never lost against the Germans during official matches.
