Armenian-French clash for world championship belt

By Lusine Shahbazyan

YEREVAN. – “Years ago when the Professional Armfighting Federation was established, I put before myself one task: so an Armenian athlete living in Armenia could be declared world champion,” Armfighting Federation President Hayk Ghukasyan said during a press conference on Wednesday.

The International K-1 and Fighting Without Rules Tournament will be held in Armenia on Sunday, and for the tenth time. And in August, Armenia’s first-ever fighter will get in the ring for the world championship belt. This bout will be held in Rostov, Russia, and Armenia’s Davit Khachatryan will face his French opponent in the 70-kg title match.

Ghukasyan said they will return from Rostov with the championship belt.

“We attach great hopes on Davit Khachatryan. Our chances are better because Davit Khachatryan has fought more than the French athlete. Davit has fought seventeen times, won fifteen of them and has only two defeats. And Davit Khachatryan lost those two bouts because of the referees’ partiality,” said Hayk Ghukasyan.
