Levon Aronian on passing of Vugar Gashimov

Armenian GM Levon Aronian feels sad about passing away of Azerbaijani player Vugar Gashimov.

“I knew from the Azerbaijani players that he was in a difficult health conditions. When someone passes away and at this age, and such a talented player, it is great grief. I feel very, very sad. We got along well and played a couple of interesting games,” Aronian said after the first round game at Tata Steel Chess.

Aronian ended his first game in a draw. Commenting on the game, he admitted “it was a strange game”, adding he will do what he is expected to do.

Grandmaster (GM) Vugar Gashimov, 27, one of Azerbaijan’s leading chess players, passed away in Germany.
