Two-time European champion Oleksandr Pielieshenko died on front line

Ukrainian Oleksandr Pielieshenko a two-time European weightlifting champion, has died on the Russian-Ukrainian front. The 30-year-old athlete had been serving in the Ukrainian armed forces since 2022, Championat.com reported.

Oleksandr Pielieshenko became European champion in the 85kg weight category in 2016 and 2017. 2016 He took fourth place at the Olympic Games in Rio.

In 2018, Pielieshenko was disqualified until 2026 for using a banned drug (chlorthalidone).
