Champions League: Inter, with Mkhitaryan, are out

Current Italian Serie A leaders Inter Milan were hosted by Atletico Madrid in the second leg of the Round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League, and lost 1-2 in regular time.

Inter's Italian defender Federico Dimarco opened the scoring in the 33rd minute. Two minutes later, Atletico's French striker Antoine Griezmann netted the equalizing goal. And in the 87th minute, Atletico's winning goal was scored by

Dutch striker Memphis Depay, taking the match to extra time—as Inter had won the first leg 1-0.
No goal was scored in extra time.

The former captain of the Armenian national team, midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan was in the starting team of Inter and was subbed off in the 111th minute.

The Atletico footballers were more successful in the penalty shootout and won 3-2.

Atletico's Slovenian goalkeeper Jan Oblak saved two penalties.

Chilean striker Alexis Sanchez, Argentinian forward Lautaro Martinez, and Dutch midfielder Davy Klaassen—who had replaced Mkhitaryan—could not convert their penalty shots for Inter.

Earlier, reigning English Premier League champions Manchester City, German Bundesliga titleholders Bayern Munich, current French Ligue 1 champions PSG, Spanish La Liga titleholders Barcelona, current La Liga leaders Real Madrid, current Premier League leaders Arsenal, and Borussia Dortmund had reached the quarterfinals of the Champions League.
