Davor Šuker: End of Ronaldo, Messi era is good for football

10:57   25 September, 2018

Croatian football legend Davor Šuker has positively assessed that this year’s The Best FIFA Men’s Player award was not handed to either FC Barcelona’s Argentine forward Lionel Messi or Juventus’ Portugal forward Cristiano Ronaldo.

Real Madrid’s Croatia midfielder Luka Modrić was named The Best FIFA Men’s Player 2018, a decade later after Messi and Ronaldo.

“Life isn’t only the path of ‘roses;’ when you lose you have to show respect for the winners,” Mundo Deportivo quoted Šuker as saying. “Modrić’s victory and the end of the era of Ronaldo and Messi are good for football and all Croatian players. With the performance he showed and the work he did this year, Modrić was worthy of this award.”
