Spain’s national team head coach Julen Lopetegui was fired ahead of World Cup 2018, the President of Spain Football Federation Luis Rubiales told reporters on Wednesday.

“We have been forced to do without Lopetegui. I do not feel betrayed because Julen has done a relentless job, but we are forced to move on this because of how things have been done. He is a professional, but this is not correct and we can't look the other way. You can't do things like that, five minutes before it's official,” Marca reputed quoting Rubiales.

As reported earlier, after 2018 FIFA World Cup celebrations Julen Lopetegui will take over as Real Madrid head coach.

Spain’s national team will face Portugal (June 15, Sochi), Iran (June 20, Kazan) and Morocco (June 25, Kaliningrad) during 2018 FIFA World Cup group stages.
