Messi wins European Golden Shoe for 5th time
09:30 21 May, 2018As a result of the 2017/18 season, FC Barcelona’s Argentina forward Lionel Messi has won the European Golden Shoe award, which presented each season to the leading goalscorer in league matches from the top division of every European national football league.
In the Spanish La Liga season that just ended, Messi, 30, scored 34 goals in 36 appearances and garnered 68 points. Thus, the Argentine football star has won this award—which was formerly known as the European Golden Boot—for the fifth time.
In the top five European football leagues (England, Spain, Germany, Italy, and France), one goal gets 2 points, and the latter are calculated in accordance with the rankings of the national leagues.
