FIFA approves use of video assistant referees during Russia World Cup

The FIFA Council held its first meeting of the year on Friday in Bogotá, Colombia, where it discussed a number of milestone initiatives related to the future of international football competitions.

FIFA approved amending the regulations of the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia.  Thus, the FIFA Council approved the use of video assistant referees (VARs) in all matches,  one additional substitute per team in matches that go into extra time, as well as permission to communicate information and transmit data to the technical area for coaching purposes.

VARs has been already used during the 2017 Confederations Cup matches as well as in the championships of Italy and France.
