George Weah becomes first Liberia president since 1944 to assume office after peaceful transfer of power

Ballon d’Or 1995 winner, Liberia’s newly elected President George Weah, has assumed office, reportedAFP.

The 51-year-old former footballer’s inauguration was held in the country.

Weah has become Liberia’s first president since 1944 to start governing the country after a peaceful transfer of power.

George Weah had won the recent presidential runoff election in Liberia.

He had also won the first round of this presidential voting, which was conducted in October 2017. 

Weah was a presidential candidate in 2005, too, but he had lost in this election.
