Armenia’s Olympic champion loses to tournament leader

Armenian Olympic champion, GM Tigran Petrosian has garnered 5 points after seven rounds at the open that is being held in Kavala, Greece.

Petrosian is one point behind the tournament’s current leader, GM Abhijeet Gupta (India), who defeated the Armenian GM in Round 7.

After seven rounds, Armenia’s champion is in fourth place. Shekhar Surya Ganguly (India) and Branko Damljanović (Serbia) are second and third, with 5.5 points apiece.   

In Round 8, Tigran Petrosian will play against Jayaram Ashwin (India), who likewise has 5 points at present.
