A bronze sculpture of the Argentina football great, Diego Maradona, was unveiled at a club in Kolkata, India, and Maradona personally attended this event.
“I am not god of football but a simple footballer,” 57-yuear-old Maradona said through an interpreter after the unveiling, reported The Guardian daily of the UK. “I’m happy to be here in Kolkata again.
“It’s amazing to have my statue here.”
But this 3.5-meter sculpture’s dubious likeness to the 1986 World Cup winner has attracted online ridicule.
Some online commenters said the statue looked more like the former England manager, Roy Hodgson, the former NBA star, Larry Bird, Bobby Ewing from Dallas, or even “someone’s gran.”
