Armenia’s Karapetyan becomes European gold medalist

Andranik Karapetyan (Armenia) placed first at the European Junior&U23 Weightlifting Championships, which are held in Albania.

In the boys’ U23 event, the Rio 2016 participant won a gold medal in the 85kg competition by lifting a combined weight of 360 kilograms (170 kg in the Snatch and 190 kg in the Clean & Jerk). Also, he won two more gold medals in the Snatch and the Clean & Jerk, separately.

This was Armenia’s third medal at the overall competitions in Albania. Earlier, Sona Poghosyan became European champion at the 75kg event of the girls’ U20 category, and Davit Hovhannisyan became a silver medalist at the 85kg competition of the boys’ U20 event.
