World Chess Cup: Armenia’s Aronian loses first tiebreaker
16:35 21 September, 2017The tiebreakers have begun Thursday at the semifinals of the 2017 FIDE World Chess Cup being held in Tbilisi, the capital city of Georgia.
Grandmaster (GM) Levon Aronian (Armenia), however, lost to GM Maxime Vachier-Lagrave (France) in the first rapid chess match.
Now, the second rapid chess games will be played.
Aside from advancing to the final of the 2017 FIDE World Chess Cup, the finalists will also be eligible to compete in the Candidates Tournament, which will be held in the German capital city of Berlin in March 2018, to determine the challenger for the World Chess Championship.
Levon Aronian plays first board for the three-time World Chess Olympiad champions and the former World Team Chess champions, Armenia.
