17:29   8 September, 2017

Grandmaster (GM) Levon Aronian, who plays first board for the three-time World Chess Olympiad champions and the former World Team Chess champions Armenia, is playing against the four-time women’s world champion, GM Hou Yifan (China), in the tie-break of the second round in the 2017 FIDE World Chess Cup being held in Tbilisi, the capital city of Georgia.

A draw was recorded in the first two rapid chess tiebreakers.

Now, the GMs will play two blitz games.

If there is a tie again, an Armageddon tiebreaker will be played. And if this match also ends in a draw, the win will be awarded to the chess master playing with the black pieces.

The World Chess Cup finalists will be eligible to compete in the Candidates Tournament to determine the challenger for the World Chess Championship.
