Sinquefield Cup: Armenia’s Aronian misses top 3 spot

The last—ninth—round games were played Friday at the 2017 Sinquefield Cup chess super tournament, the third round of the Grand Chess Tour, and which wrapped up in the US city of Saint Louis.

In this round, Grandmaster (GM) Levon Aronian (Armenia) faced the reining World Champion, GM Magnus Carlsen (Norway), but he lost this match on the 52nd move.

As a result, Aronian, who plays first board for the three-time World Chess Olympiad champions and the former World Team Chess champions Armenia, shared the 4th and 5th places with GM Sergey Karjakin (Russia), with 5 points, apiece.

GM Maxime Vachier-Lagrave (France), who amassed 6 points, was declared the 2017 Sinquefield Cup winner.
