Mkhitaryan equals Ruud van Nistelrooy’s past accomplishment

By scoring a goal against R.S.C. Anderlecht (Belgium) during Game 1 of the UEFA Europa League quarterfinal clash on Thursday, Manchester United (England; a.k.a. Red Devils) midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan has netted in four consecutive away European games so far this season. 

Earlier, captain of the Armenian national football squad had scored away goals also against FC Rostov (Russia), AS Saint-Étienne (France), and FC Zorya Luhansk (Ukraine).

Thus, ever since legendary Dutch footballer Ruud van Nistelrooy, 28-year-old Mkhitaryan has become the first Man United player to score in four successive away European appearances. Nistelrooy had achieved this feat between 2002 and 2003, reported Sky Sports.

The aforesaid match in Brussels ended in a 1-1 tie, the Armenian international scored the goal of the Red Devils, and he played in the team’s starting eleven for 90 minutes.

And as a result of an online voting on the UEFA official website, the Armenia international was also recognized Player of the Match.

In addition, Henrikh Mkhitaryan is among UEFA’s four candidates for Player of the Week, after Game 1 of the Europa League quarterfinals.
