Rio 2016: Armenia’s Artur Aleksanyan defeats Turk wrestler and gets through to the final

Two-time World Champion Artur Aleksanyan (98 kg) has got through to the final of the Greco-Roman wrestling tournament held in the framework of the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, ensuring at least a silver medal for himself.

In the semi-final, the Gyurmi wrestler defeated Turkish wrestler Cenk İldem by a score of 9-0.
In 1/8 final, Aleksanyan beat Italian Daigoro Timoncini by a score of 5-2, and proved stronger than Romanian Alin Ciurariu in the quarter-final in 2 minutes and 11 seconds (8-0).

In the final, Artur Aleksanyan will fight against Cuban Lugo Cabrera.

Another Armenian wrestler, Migran Arutyunyan, also entered the struggle on Tuesday. In the starting fight, he beat Egyptian Ahmed Kakh by a score of 9-0 in 1 minute and 25 seconds, proving to be stronger than South Korean Ryu Han-su in the quarter-final (2-1).

In the semi-final, Arutyunyan defeated Azerbaijani Rasul Chunayev (4-1).

In the Greco-Romanian wrestling tournament, Armenia was represented also by Arsen Julfalakyan (75 kg) and Maksim Manukyan (85 kg), who lost in the starting fights and left the struggle.
