Candidates Tournament: Aronian vs. Svidler

Round 11 will be played Thursday at the Candidates Tournament for the 2016 World Chess Championship, which is held in the Russian capital city of Moscow.

In this round, Grandmaster (GM) Levon Aronian, who plays first board for the three-time World Chess Olympiad champions and the former World Team Chess champions Armenia, will face GM Peter Svidler (Russia).

After 10 rounds, Aronian shares 3rd and 4th places with the former World Champion, GM Viswanathan Anand (India), with 5.5 points apiece.

GM Sergey Karjakin (Russia) and Italian GM Fabiano Caruana (USA) are the current leaders with 6 points each.

The winner of the Candidates Tournament, which has about a €420-thousand prize fund, will be the challenger for the 2016 World Chess Championship against the reining champion, GM Magnus Carlsen (Norway), from November 11 to 30, in New York.
